Description
The Tech Coaching Preparation Program (TCFP) is a program designed to provide educational development for graduate students regarding the role and practices of a tech coach. The program aims to develop practical coaching capacity among graduate students interested in becoming tech coaches. The Office Teaching and Learning, and the Doucette Library offer foundation workshops and tech sessions in partnership. Key aspects of tech coaching are discussed, observed and practiced during and after the workshops and tech sessions.

The program is built around current WSE Teaching and Learning Office’s Friday Tech Time for Teaching session offerings and the tech Talk sessions, as hosted by the Doucette Library. Participants will gain over 11 hours of practical learning and experience: topics include tech coaching philosophies, research-informed practices for using technology in teaching and current technology innovations. In addition to attending workshops and sessions, graduate students are expected to complete 30 minutes of practice coaching time with another participant from the program for each workshop or session attended. The 11 minimum hours for this badge is broken down into 8 hours of workshop and sessions plus 3 hours of practice coaching.

A series of events are offered by Werklund School of Education and Doucette Library. Participants will have opportunity to attend various tech coaching foundations workshops held throughout the academic year to learn the basics of tech coaching. Participants are required to complete at least 11 hours of workshops and coaching practice from the WSE Tech Coaching Foundations workshops, Tech Time for Teaching series, and Doucette’s Black Chair sessions. Participants are also required to complete a minimum of four, 30-minute tech coaching practice sessions. Beyond attendance, each participant is asked to complete a reflection piece about key coaching practices and observation outcomes of all sessions attended. Those reflections are recorded in a passport document each participant keeps during the program.
